Nagaland University rolls out 4-year BSc courses with research track, flexible exits
New Delhi: Nagaland University has opened admissions for its newly introduced four-year undergraduate science programmes at the Multi-Disciplinary Research Centre (MDRC), with applications beginning April 27 and the last date set for May 18.
The programmes, aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, are designed around a flexible academic structure with multiple entry and exit options, a dedicated research track, and a multidisciplinary curriculum aimed at preparing students for higher education and evolving career pathways.
Offered at the Lumami campus, the courses include BSc programmes in physics, chemistry, mathematics, zoology and botany, with an intake of 10 seats in each discipline. The curriculum integrates core science subjects with ability enhancement courses and value added courses to build a broad-based academic foundation alongside practical and analytical skills.
The university said the programmes follow a flexible choice-based credit system, allowing students to exit with a certificate after one year, diploma after two years, a bachelor’s degree after three years, or a bachelor’s degree with research after four years. The four-year track is structured to enable direct progression to PhD programmes, subject to prevailing regulations.
Vice-chancellor Jagadish Kumar Patnaik said the initiative reflects the university’s push towards academic innovation. “Aligned with the vision of NEP 2020, these programmes offer flexible exit options, a dedicated research track, and a truly multidisciplinary learning environment. This initiative reflects the University’s commitment to academic innovation, research excellence, and preparing students for the evolving demands of the future,” he said.
Officials said the curriculum has been designed to meet contemporary academic and industry requirements, with a focus on interdisciplinary learning, computational skills and hands-on training. The programme also incorporates employability enhancement components to strengthen professional readiness.
Students enrolled will have access to advanced laboratories, digital learning platforms, research facilities and library resources. The MDRC ecosystem, the university said, aims to promote scientific inquiry, innovation and critical thinking through a combination of theoretical and practical exposure.
Candidates with at least 50% marks in Class XII or equivalent examinations from recognised boards are eligible to apply. Students awaiting results may also apply, subject to admission rules. Applications can be submitted online through the university’s admission portal.
