Lucknow boy to head students’ union of King’s College in London

LUCKNOW: A 21-year-old boy from Lucknow,

Mohammad Yasir Khan

, has brought laurels to the city by being elected as the president of the students’ union of King’s College, London.


An alumnus of

La Martiniere College

, Yasir claims that he is the first Indian to hold this post in 149 years of

KCLSU

history. Excited to head a students' union at King’s College, Yasir said, “This is a time when KCL students are transitioning back into normal life from the Covid-19 pandemic. I look forward to working for the welfare of students.”


A BA second-year student studying international relations, Yasir will now be heading a pool of 40,000 students from 150 nationalities. His tenure will begin from July – the spring season. Yasir’s priorities at KCL will be re-introducing the alumni cards for graduates, providing free sanitary products to KCL fraternity, tuition fee rebate, introducing an installment programme for annual fees and reducing the rent at KCL residences.


For Yasir’s father,

Mohammad Nasir Khan

, a businessman, his son has carried his passion of being a leader. “Yasir was a prefect at his college and now he has glorified the name of our city in the UK. I am enormously proud to learn that he is the first Indian to hold this post,” Nasir said.


Yasir’s younger brother Zaid Khan who is pursuing law from Lucknow University said it’s a matter of immense happiness seeing his brother leading a student union of a prestigious institution.
