JEE Main 2026 Session 2: NTA reviewing April 5 Chemistry exam answer key; candidates told to hold objections
JEE Main Session 2 answer key 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is currently verifying claims related to discrepancies in the Chemistry section of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 Session 2 exam held on April 5. The issue reportedly occurred in the shift 2 examination, prompting concern among students and educators.
Taking note of the matter, the NTA has advised candidates not to make any payments for challenging the Chemistry answer key until an official clarification is issued. The agency acknowledged the issue in a social media post, stating:
“Reports regarding discrepancies in the JEE Chemistry paper (5 April, S2) have been noted on social media and are currently under verification. NTA regrets the inconvenience caused. Candidates are advised not to make any payments related to challenges for these until an official clarification is issued.”
Following the announcement, several students, parents, and educators took to social media to express their concerns. Many candidates questioned the seriousness of the issue, saying the discrepancy created panic among students. Some candidates also highlighted that the examination involves years of preparation and that such errors can cause significant stress and uncertainty.
A student commented, “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?? RELEASE THE CORRECT ANS KEY ASAP AND ISSUE AND APOLOGY REGARDING THE MENTAL TORTURE YOU HAVE GIVEN TO THIS SHIFT CHILDREN.”
Another student wrote, “This discrepancy cannot be dismissed with just an apology from NTA. Accountability must be ensured.”
Another user also expressed concern, saying, “How can NTA do such a blunder. Please try to understand that this exam involves years of preparation and lot of expectations of students and parents are dependent on JEE. NTA should understand the trauma this has given to a number of students and their parents.”
The NTA had earlier released the provisional answer key for JEE Main 2026 Session 2 Paper 1 (BE/BTech) on April 11, 2026. Along with the answer key, the agency also opened the objection window. Candidates who appeared for the April session can check their provisional answer key and recorded responses through the official website — jeemain.nta.nic.in — using their login credentials.
The JEE Main 2026 Session 2 examinations were conducted from April 2 to April 8. According to the NTA, the exam was held in 566 examination centres across 304 cities in India and 14 cities outside the country. Around 11.23 lakh candidates appeared for the computer-based test (CBT).
Candidates who wish to challenge the provisional answer key are required to pay a non-refundable processing fee of Rs 200 per question. However, students have been advised to wait for further clarification regarding the Chemistry section of the April 5 shift 2 exam before submitting objections.
After reviewing all objections and concerns, the NTA will release the final answer key on April 20, 2026. If any challenges are found to be valid, the agency will revise the answer key accordingly.
