Exclusive data shows that over two years at least 25% applicants improved their scores thanks to the option of a second attempt
Exclusive anonymised JEE (Main) data accessed by The Times of India shows that over two years at least 25% applicants were able to improve their scores thanks to the option of a second attempt introduced in 2019. In many cases students' scores jumped from the lowest percentile to the highest percentile between the two attempts.
While the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate or NEET-UG for admission to medical courses is still conducted once a year, students writing the JEE(Main) had the option to take the computer-based test twice from 2019, and four times from this year onwards. This gives candidates the opportunity to improve their scores through repeat attempts or choose a test that doesn't clash with other exams.
