<div class="section1"><div class="Normal">The National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy (NA)examination (I) 2005 to be held on April 17, 2005 is meant for those seeking admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy or NDA for the 115th Course and Naval Academy for the 35th 10 plus two (Executive Branch) course commencing from January, 2006.
Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2.1.1987 and not later than 1.7.1989 can apply.<br /><br />Through this examination, around 335 vacancies would be filled, of which, 195 are for the Army, 66 for the Air Force, 39 for the Navy and 35 for the Executive Branch of NA. The final admission to the 115th NDA course and 35th NA course would be based on the results of the written examination followed by intelligence and personality test by the Services Selection Board (SSB) of candidates who qualify in the examination.<br /><br /><span style="" font-weight:="" bold="">Who is eligible to apply?</span><br /><br />Class XII pass or equivalent for Army wing of the NDA. For Air Force and Naval wings of the NDA and for the 10 plus two (Executive Branch) course at the NA, you should be class XII pass or equivalent with physics and mathematics.<br /><br />Those appearing for the class XII examination would have to submit proof of passing the class XII or equivalent examination by December 10, 2005.<br /><br /><span style="" font-weight:="" bold="">Physical standards</span><br /><br />Applicants must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to the examination as per guidelines given in Appendix-V of the notification in Employment News dated October 16, 2004<br /><br /><span style="" font-weight:="" bold="">The written examination</span><br /><br />* There are two papers, each of two and half hours duration.<br /><br />* The mathematics paper is of 300 marks while the General Ability (GA) test carries 600 marks.<br /><br />* Both papers have objective type questions only.<br /><br />The maths paper has questions from algebra, set theory, matrices and determinants, trigonometry, analytical geometry of two and three dimensions, differential calculus, integral calculus and differential equations, vector algebra, statistics and probability. Hence, students who have studied maths till class XII would find it convenient to tackle the maths paper.<br /><br />In the GA test, Part ''A'' has questions on English, which carries 200 marks designed to test proficiency in English including your verbal ability, English usage and comprehension of English. Part ''B'' of the test is devoted to General Knowledge, which carries 400 marks covering physics, chemistry, general science, social studies, geography and current events. A broad outline of the syllabus is given in the notification to indicate the range of knowledge and understanding required.<br /><br /><span style="" font-weight:="" bold="">How to apply</span><br /><br />Apply in the common application form devised by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for its examinations from the designated head post offices or post offices throughout the country against cash payment of Rs 20. In Delhi circle, forms are available at Delhi GPO, New Delhi, Indraprastha, Ramesh Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, Lodi Road, Krishna Nagar, Ashok Vihar, Parliament Street and UPSC PO.<br /><br /><span style="" font-weight:="" bold="">The next stage</span><br /><br />Candidates who qualify in the written examination are invited to appear for the intelligence and personality test by the SSB. They are put through intelligence tests, which are both verbal and non-verbal in nature. They go through group tests, which include group discussions, group planning and outdoor group tasks too. They are asked to give brief lectures on specified subjects.<br /><br />A candidate recommended by the SSB will undergo a medical examination. Only those who are declared fit by the medical board are admitted to the academy.<br /><br /><span style="" font-weight:="" bold="">After selection</span><br /><br />The cost of training including accommodation, books, uniforms, boarding and medical treatment is borne by the government. Selected candidates get their preliminary training both academic and physical for three years at the NDA. On passing out, cadets are awarded B Sc or B A degree from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.<br /><br />On passing out from the NDA, Army cadets go to the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, naval cadets to the cadets trainingship and Air Force cadets to Air Force Academy, Hyderabad or Basic Flying Training School, Allahabad.</div> </div>
