IIT Hyderabad invites applications for SURE Internship 2026: Check eligibility, key dates and direct link to apply
The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad has opened applications for its Summer Undergraduate Research Exposure (SURE) Internship 2026. The programme offers undergraduate and postgraduate students from across India an opportunity to take part in hands-on research at the institute.
The last date to apply online is March 10, 2026.
The SURE Internship is a summer research programme designed to give students early exposure to academic research. Selected interns will work closely with faculty members at IIT Hyderabad on research projects during the summer break.
A total of 250 internship seats are available under the programme. Out of these, 100 seats are reserved exclusively for women candidates.
The internship is open only to students from institutions other than IIT Hyderabad.

Applications must be submitted only through the online portal at iith.ac.in. Applications sent by email or submitted offline will not be accepted.
The internship will run tentatively from May 15 to July 14, 2026.

SURE Internship 2026: Overview

Duration and fellowship
The internship will run tentatively from May 15 to July 14, 2026.
- Minimum duration: 1 month
- Maximum duration: 2 months
Selected interns will receive:
- Rs 15,000 for the full two-month programme
- Rs 7,500 per month for a one-month internship
- Rs 10,000 for a one-and-a-half-month internship
Part-time or online internships are not permitted.
Hostel accommodation will be provided in IIT Hyderabad student hostels. However, mess charges will have to be paid by the interns.
Who can apply?
The SURE Internship 2026 is open to students who meet the following criteria:
- First-year Master of Science (MSc) students in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or Biology
- First-year Master of Arts (MA) students
- Second or third-year Bachelor of Technology (BTech) or Bachelor of Design (BDes) students from any branch
- Third or fourth-year students of Integrated BTech–Master of Technology (MTech) programmes
Applicants must:
- Be among the top 20 per cent of their class, based on CGPA or percentage marks
- Get this ranking certified by the Head of the Institution or Principal
- Be a full-time, regular student during the application period and the internship
Selection process
The selection process will be conducted in two stages:
- Preliminary screening of applications
- Online interview, conducted department-wise or mentor-wise, as decided by the concerned department
During evaluation, importance will be given to:
- Consistent academic performance
- Co-curricular and extracurricular achievements
- Participation in competitions such as Olympiads and the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE)
- Performance in the interview

Selected candidates will be informed through email. The final selection list will also be published on the IIT Hyderabad SRC office webpage.
Candidates who are not selected will not receive separate communication.
