IIM Mumbai to roll out 4-year UG course in Digital Science and Business Management with IIT Bombay

MUMBAI: IIM-Mumbai's first undergraduate programme, Bachelor of Science (BS) in Digital Science and Business Management, initially planned for the satellite campus in Pune, will start in Mumbai from the coming academic year with a batch size of 70.

Students will be admitted to the four-year course based on JEE mains' scores and interviews with a weightage distribution of 70:30 to draw the merit list, where the interviews will carry 30% weightage. The fees for the programme would be around Rs 6-7 lakhs per annum. Students who complete the BS programme from the institute will get an option to even do a one-year MBA from the institute, recommended in line with the National Education Policy 2020. The course will be offered in collaboration with IIT-Bombay and industry partners.

Several IIMs are venturing into standalone undergraduate programmes, some of which are also into multidisciplinary areas beyond management education. IIM-Mumbai, too, plans to launch more programmes, once the infrastructure is in place.

Director, Prof Manoj Tiwari, in his address during the institute's annual convocation ceremony felicitating the inaugural batch under the IIM tag, announced the launch of the four-year programme. A total of 505 students graduated from the Mumbai campus on Saturday, after its formal recognition from NITIE, of which 300 were from the general MBA.

Speaking about the UG programme, Tiwari said, "This programme brings together the most transformative technologies of the recent time - artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, the Internet of Things, and robotics - seamlessly integrated with the core pillars of management - operations, marketing, finance, and manufacturing. Designed to meet the evolving needs of digitally driven industries, the course aims to create future-ready professionals who can operate at the intersection of technology and business leadership," said Tiwari. TOI had earlier reported that the programme was being planned for their proposed Pune campus.

Ashishkumar Chauhan, MD&CEO of the National Stock Exchange presided over the event and the chairperson of the institute's Board of Governors, Shashi Kiran Shetty, was also present at the event. Shetty said, "With a planned investment of over Rs 1,000 crore student capacity set to scale to 2,500 to 3,000 by 2028, we are scaling IIM-Mumbai into a world-class institution that continues to foster innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership to drive national progress."
