It was an impressive act put together at the first-ever fashion show conceptualised and presented by the students of BA (Hons) Fashion and Apparel Technology, BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing and Promotion, MA Costume Designing and MA Apparel Production and Quality Control of the School of Fashion Technology (SOFT), Rai University, recently at the Celebrations Garden.
Mercifully, the collection showcased by the students of Rai University was neither restricted to evening gowns nor traditional attire but had something for all occasions. The fashion extravaganza, which proved to be a perfect launching pad for the students of SOFT, witnessed their creativity unleash under 20 themes such as Day after tomorrow, Check this stripe, Illusion, Unzipped, Garden of five senses, Crizzle and Chic chat, to name some. ''Unzipped'' by Monica, a third-year student, provided a futuristic glimpse of the winter collection in 2005. Third-year students, Shambhavi and Arpit tried to create an illusion of human figures in the dresses, under their collection ''Illusion''. ''Crizzle'' had sequins and crystals embossed in a zig, zag style for effect and ''Check the stripes'' played around with angles and triangles. ''Chic chat'' offered casual wear that was created out of a new fabric which was a mix of leather and rexin. Garden of five senses was the inspiration behind the collection with the same name designed by Ajit and Anktia.
It took more than two months for the students of BA (Hons) Fashion and Apparel Technology to come up with their collection for the fashion show, as a part of their project for the final semester. A lot of brainstorming was done by the students, under the guidance of their faculty members, right from selecting the theme to deciding about the fabric, designing the creation keeping in mind the budget and providing several touches, before the final product came into being.
