Don’t hold exams without vaccinating students: NSUI
MANGALURU: National Students Union of India (NSUI) district president Sawad Sullia demanded that the state government not hold examinations without vaccinating students.
He told the media here on Thursday, that the warnings related to the possibilities of a third wave of Covid-19 had made parents and students anxious. “Do not conduct any examination without vaccinating students, since parents are apprehensive that a third wave of Covid-19 may take place. If the government has plans to conduct examinations, then the vaccination drive for students should be commenced immediately on priority, or else, let the government cancel all examinations,” said Sawad.
He also urged the government to reduce the fee for students in private institutions by 50%, and announce a free education scheme for children who lost parents due to Covid-19. “The pandemic has affected people on a large scale, and students are not receiving any scholarships. Though classes are being conducted online, private institutions have not changed their fee structure. This will deprive students from poor families. Hence, the government should intervene and reduce the fee structure by 50%. The government should take care of the education of students, who lost parents due to Covid-19, from kindergarten to the postgraduate level,” he said.
NSUI representative for Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Anvith Kateel said the government should conduct classes on campuses at least for 45 days, if they are going ahead with the decision to hold examinations on campuses. “Holding examinations on campus for students without conducting classes on campuses, will affect their performance. Though the earlier semesters have not been completed, colleges have commenced online classes for the next semester. This will affect the education of students,” he added.
