The students of Apeejay school of design organised a design show to showcase their creativity, innovativeness and artistic talents. For the outgoing students of Bachelor''s in Design, belonging to four streams of specialisations- fashion design, textile design, graphic design and interior design, this was part of their final project. The students designed the campaigns for the industries where they had their industry training.
Some of the designs did not appear to be the handiwork of amateurs, but had a professional appeal of a mature thinker.
The design show was an attempt to invite industry professionals to examine the student''s work for the purpose of job placements. The graphic students excelled themselves with social themes, such as the importance of breast feeding, drug abuse and importance of signages, among others. Meghna Gupta prepared a campaign for Heart & Lung institute. To inspire people to take care of their health, she designed a wallet card, pill reminder, diary and medicine box as well.
The students of interior design provided some nice and innovative ideas for restaurants, terrace gardens and play schools. Plenty of research work and hard labour had gone into the designing of campaigns. The four-year programmes of design courses, after a 10+2 help students garner technical skills and knowledge, required to be a professional designer. The curriculum is structured to cater to the industry and is updated regularly to meet their demands.
The purpose of graphic design is to enable the students to become visual-communication professionals. The curriculum introduces the students to the essentials of painting, drawing, typography, printmaking, conceptualising and making lay outs. The interior design students learn about architecture and design fundamentals, rather than only decor. The combination of theory and practical in the construction studio and workshop equip the students with knowledge of contemporary interior design industry. Many of the design problems selected for projects are actual projects offered by practising design firms. The students are awarded degrees by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
