Delhi chokes as AQI crosses 400 mark: GRAP-3 in force while schools continue in hybrid mode
Delhi-NCR woke up to another grey and suffocating morning as the air quality once again dipped into the ‘severe’ category. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the national capital recorded an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 413 around 7 am on Tuesday, marking hazardous levels of pollution. A thick blanket of smog reduced visibility and raised concerns among health authorities, parents, and commuters.
The overall AQI rose from 362 on Monday to 429 (by 11:30 am on Tuesday) — the first ‘severe’ reading of the season for the capital.
Under Stage III, the following curbs have been implemented:
However, no blanket closure of schools has been announced across the NCR region. Schools in Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad continue to operate under advisories, with decisions left to local authorities and individual managements based on daily AQI readings.
Parents from Noida and Ghaziabad remain concerned and demand for schools to shift to hybrid mode.
Officials have urged schools to minimise outdoor activities, ensure adequate indoor ventilation, and provide health advisories to parents.Ready to navigate global policies? Secure your overseas future. Get expert guidance now!
Pollution peaks in several parts of the city
Out of Delhi’s 39 active air monitoring stations, 31 reported ‘severe’ air quality, CPCB’s Sameer app showed. Wazirpur recorded the day’s highest reading at 458, followed by Mundka at 464, while Anand Vihar, Rohini, and Bawana also hovered above the 400 mark. The overall AQI rose from 362 on Monday to 429 (by 11:30 am on Tuesday) — the first ‘severe’ reading of the season for the capital.
GRAP Stage III measures come into effect
With conditions worsening, the Delhi government activated Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on Tuesday, following directions from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).Under Stage III, the following curbs have been implemented:
- Ban on most construction and demolition activities, except essential projects like railways and metro work.
- Suspension of operations at industries that are not powered by clean fuels.
- Ban on diesel generator sets, except for emergency use.
- Intensified mechanical road sweeping and water sprinkling to control dust.
Schools continue hybrid mode; no closure announced for NCR regions
Following the GRAP Stage III enforcement, the Directorate of Education instructed Delhi schools to shift to hybrid learning for students up to Class 5, allowing classes to be held both online and offline depending on local air quality conditions. However, no blanket closure of schools has been announced across the NCR region. Schools in Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad continue to operate under advisories, with decisions left to local authorities and individual managements based on daily AQI readings.

A Drastic Reduction in Air Pollution, Energy, Fuel and Emission from Automobiles (Motor/Battery Power, Electricity and Coal for the EVs), is possible by getting rid of their Energy-Wasting Friction Brakes and using a `Smart Transmission' that Recover most of the Kinetic Energy while Braking, and reusing the same Energy (Stored in Transmission) for powering the Next Acceleration!, ..just like how a Simple Energy Mechanism in a pull-back Toy Car does it so beautifully!. ..Trrrr (Braking), ..Vroom (Free Acceleration!).. .A Unique Transmission (Gearbox) that Recover, Store and Reuse the Braking Energy and offer Energy, Fuel and Pollution Free Acceleration (Battery Free Acceleration for the EVs!), was shown at the AutoExpo2000, New Delhi, 25 years ago!.. .Now imagine those Diesel Vehicles do not have to use the Engine and Fuel (at all) for the initial Acceleration (that results in heavy smoke and other emission during the initial Acceleration), and all those Petrol Vehicles do not have to Revv. for the initial Acceleration, and Hybrid Vehicles would become Double Hybrid, and all those EVs can Accelerate without using/wasting away any of the Battery Power!.. .There can be No Place for Energy wasting Friction Brakes in Automobiles in 21st Century, whatever the Energy or Fuel - Petrol, Diesel, CNG, Hydrogen or Bio Fuel; and definitely not in those Electric Vehicles.. .Time for Automakers to get rid of Energy Wasting Friction Brakes from Energy Guzzling EVs, and thereby reduce a lot of Battery Power, Electricity and use of Coal; if not from the rest of our Automobiles that use Engine and Fuel and thereby reduce the Energy, Fuel and Emission from all Automobiles.. .India has one of the Best Technology in the World to drastically reduce the Air Pollution from Automobiles and Energy Guzzling EVs (Coal), by getting rid of Energy Wasting Friction Brakes from All our Automobiles, Engine Driven or Electric.. .Actually GRAP should read as `Get Rid of Air Pollution', because reducing the Air Pollution from Automobiles and Energy Guzzling EVs (and the use of a lot of Coal), is as easy as playing with a pull-back Toy Car!, ..Trrrr (Braking), ..Vroom (Pollution Free Acceleration!).. .Even as Electric, Hybrid and Hydrogen Vehicles recover the Kinetic Energy, there is a need to recover Braking Energy at lower speeds (all the way down to a Full Stop) in City Driving, with Frequent Braking and Re-Acceleration at the Traffic Signals, Stops and taking Turns at the Street Corners!. . .Time for Not only the Schools, Colleges and Offices to Go Hybrid, but All Automobiles to go Hybrid including those Electric Vehicles, which also need to go Hybrid! - with Motor and Battery used with a Smart Transmission that Recover, Store and Reuse the Braking Energy at Lower Speeds in City Driving. ..just like in a pull-back Toy Car!. ..Trrrr (Braking), ..Vroom (Battery Free Acceleration!).Read allPost comment
