NEW DELHI: The high first cutoff and the marginal drop in the second list are putting applicants in a fix. Many high scorers—90% and above—are still out of the cutoff ambit and not waiting for their specific course. Any course is fine if it's available in the college of their choice. But another group is still keeping their fingers crossed for cutoffs to decrease further in the subsequent lists.
Abhishek Jainfrom Faridabad has scored 95.75% but didn't qualify for BCom (honours) in any popular college in the first list. He waited, but not any longer. "With colleges closing admissions after the first cutoff itself, I today took admission in BCom programme in
Ramjas College," he said.
Shruti Garg's preference was political science (honours), but she opted for Hindi in Gargi in the first cutoff as she wants to study in either Gargi or Kamala Nehru College. "Now in the second cutoff I am eligible for KNC so I shifted. It's the college that matters to me, not the course. In KNC I will get better opportunities for extracurricular activities," said Shruti (name changed).
Another group is now banking on the extracurricular activities route for getting into the college of their choice. Katyayni Gupta, an applicant with 90%, said: "I want to study in Ramjas. Though I could have taken admission elsewhere in the first cutoff list, I didn't opt for that. Now I am left with the ECS option if I have to study in Ramjas."
Those waiting for subsequent lists are, however, a worried lot. "I didn't take admission as I was not getting the course of choice in a popular college. Now I will wait for the subsequent lists, hoping that admissions will remain open," said Karishma, who has 91.5% but not a course or a college yet.
