“College can be a safety net,” says Kris Jenner: Why she wants young people to follow their passion
The question of whether college is now necessary in 2026 comes with strong opinions. Some see it as essential stage for a stable career, while others believe success can come through many different paths. Media personality and entrepreneur Kris Jenner recently shared her thoughts on this debate, saying that while college can offer security, young people should also pay attention to what genuinely excites them.
Speaking on a recent episode of the SmartLess podcast, Jenner shared her own experience with education. According to People, she acknowledged that she did not attend college but never discouraged her children from pursuing higher education.
"I'm going to get in trouble here because I did not go to college," Jenner said during the conversation, People reports. She explained that following a traditional academic route was not something she felt strongly about while growing up.
Jenner said that her children have taken different approaches when it comes to education. According to People, she said that some pursued college while others chose different routes.
"My son went to the University of Southern California. Kim went to college for maybe a couple of weeks. Kourtney graduated from college," Jenner said.
Her children include Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Rob Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner.
Her comments mirror the idea that there is no single route that works for everyone. Jenner said she has always approached learning through curiosity rather than formal academic structures.
"I love to learn, and I soak it all in," she said, adding that people absorb knowledge in different ways, according to People.
While encouraging young people to explore their interests, Jenner also pointed out that certain professions still require formal education. "If you want to be a doctor or a surgeon or go into law, obviously you need that education," she said.
One example from her own family is Kim Kardashian, who is currently studying law while continuing to appear on the family's reality series, The Kardashians.
Jenner concluded by advising young people to think carefully about what motivates them when planning their future.
"What is it that gets you excited about life and what you want to do with your career?" she said. "Follow your heart," she added. Her perspective mirrors a view that education can provide support and structure, but career decisions should also consider personal interests and long term goals.
