BPSC Stenographer Exam 2026 date extended to June 11; check official notice here
BPSC Stenographer Exam 2026: The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has extended the date of the entrance examination for the post of Stenographer which was scheduled to be held on May 9, 2026.
In a notification published on Monday, the board said the examination will now be conducted on Thursday, June 11, 2026. The board cited 'administrative reason' for the postponement.

Number of seats:
Education and skills: The candidates must have cleared 10+2 or should have an equivalent degree from a recognised board. In addition, one needs to have stenography skills in Hindi and English apart from basic computer knowledge.
Age limit: The minimum age of candidates is 18 years. The maximum age is different for different categories. It is 37 years for General (Male) and BC/EBC (Male & Female). For General (Female) it is 40 years and 42 years for SC/ST (Male & Female).
Pay scale: The candidates will be compensatedas perLevel IV which starts with Rs 25500 and can extend up to Rs 81100.
Application date: The last date of the application ended February 2, 2026.
Selection process: The recruitment process includes a written examination and Practical Test (Skill Test)
Exam pattern: The written exam is objective or MCQ based which will have 150 questions of 600 marks. Each question will carry 4 marks and there will be -1 mark per wrong answer. The duration of the exam is 2 hours and 15 minutes.
The question paper consists of 50 question from General Studies, 50 from General Science & Mathematics, and 50 questions from Mental Ability (Reasoning, Comprehension, Logic).
Minimum qualifying marks: A General candidate needs at least 40% marks to qualify the exam. Meanwhile, the minimum qualifying marks for Backward Class is 36.5%, 34% for EBC and 32% for SC/ST/Women and PwD.
Syllabus overview:
General Studies will cover a wide range of topics including current affairs, scientific advancements, awards, languages, important books, capitals, and currencies, sports, Indian history, geography, and the economy, Constitution and political system, Panchayati Raj and various development schemes that drive governance at different levels. Special emphasis is also given to Bihar’s role in the national movement.
The General Science and Mathematic section covers basic concepts from science and mathematics including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, and basic computer knowledge. The mathematics portion includes number systems, decimals and fractions, percentages, ratio and average, as well as profit and loss and interest calculations.
Verbal & non-verbal reasoning section focuses on topics such as analogy, identifying similarities and differences, problem-solving, coding-decoding, number series, and logical reasoning.
