Each year lakhs of students appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), for admission into different engineering colleges across the country. According to the NTA, in 2023, more than 11 lakh candidates appeared for the JEE exams. Needless to say, engineering is one of the most popular choices of students to pursue a career in India. There are a number of reasons why one can find the domain lucrative.
- Job security: Engineering is a field in which skilled workers are in high demand. Engineers often have lower unemployment rates than the national average, owing to the fact that a skilled workforce is always in demand, particularly in a country like India with a young labour force.
- High salaries: Engineers are often well-paid for working in the service industry, and their pay often rises with the years of experience they put into work.
- Variety of specialisations: Engineering has numerous different specialisations. There is a branch of engineering that can meet a student's interests and skills, from aeronautical engineering to civil engineering to electrical engineering.
The basic eligibility criteria for admission into any engineering stream is that the candidate must have qualified 10+2 level of schooling, with a minimum of 50% marks.
