Each year lakhs of students appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), for admission into different engineering colleges across the country. According to the NTA, in 2023, more than 11 lakh candidates appeared for the JEE exams. Needless to say, engineering is one of the most popular choices of students to pursue a career in India. The basic eligibility criteria for admission into any engineering stream is that the candidate must have qualified 10+2 level of schooling, with a minimum of 50% marks.

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), serves as the centralised admission process for enrolment into premier engineering institutions in India, such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and other engineering colleges.
Students also have the option to pursue a lateral entry course for BTech. In such a case, they are required to enroll in a three year diploma after completion of their class 10 or class 12 level education.

In 2023 Karnataka alone saw one of the highest packages offered to an engineering student in India. Reportedly a package of Rs. 44 lakh per annum was offered to a student from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Dharwad by Google during their placement process.
