Delhi Times brings you a frame by frame account of Michael Caine's visit to Jaipur Don't blame it on Rio, but Rajasthan. After Omar Sharif and Peter O'Toole, who stayed at Jodhpur's Ummed Bhawan Palace while shooting for One Night With The King, it was the turn of Oscar and Golden Globe-winner Michael Caine to visit Rajasthan. Michael Meter * Born as Maurice Joseph Micklewhite in London.
* After the success of The Caine Mutiny (1954), he changed surname to Caine. * Has acted in 99 films. * Won Oscars for Hannah And Her Sisters, Alfie; won the Golden Globe for Little Voice. * Now wants to remake Sleuth, his earlier classic with Lawrence Olivier. The Hollywood star spent three nights in Jaipur. Caine and his wife of 32 years Shakira, a Guyanese 'Indian', moved around the market in Jaipur and even shopped for jewellery. A close friend of the Iceland President, who was in the country recently, Caine readily agreed when the President asked him if he would like to visit India -- not least because Shakira's ancestors had migrated to Guyana from Kashmir and she had never seen India. So, it was a special occasion for Shakira, a former Miss Guyana. "It's my first visit to India. For Shakira also, this is the first visit to the land of her ancestors. This country has a rich heritage and so many attributes. I wish I could have done a film with an Indian backdrop. I am happy Omar Sharif and Peter O'Toole were here to do a film. I will have to see that film," says Caine. This being a quiet visit, not many in Jaipur were aware of the presence of Caine and Shakira. During their stay, the couple had lunch with Lalit and Menal Modi at Rambagh Palace. Besides, they attended a dinner party hosted by Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje. While out sightseeing, Caine and Shakira went to Fort Amber and enjoyed an elephant ride. Subsequently, they attended a party hosted by Maharaja Bhawani Singh at City Palace.
