GURGAON: With the Delhi assembly elections round the corner, an app is allowing Gurgaon residents to donate funds to parties of their choice through discounts they earn while dining out.
Using this app, Sanny Chaudhary, a resident of Belvedere Tower, has made a donation to the Aam Aadmi Party, from cashback bonuses he gained every time he dined at a city restaurant.
“I always wanted to make some contribution to help AAP in its election campaign in Delhi. When I saw a feature in the app, which allows one to donate to any political party, I immediately signed up for the option. It gives you a sense of contributing towards positive change in society,” said the 30-year-old IITian.
Chaudhary is not alone. Ahead of the Delhi polls, many Gurgaonites are donating for the election campaigns of political parties. While most have contributed around Rs 500, there are more than 150 people who have donated over Rs 3,000 to their parties. The app is just like any other redemption application available in the market that helps users earn bonuses on restaurant bills, and use the cash-back to shop online or pay phone bills.
Sameer Grover, founder of this app, explained to TOI how he hit upon the idea. “One of the l parties approached us to offer donation option for cash redemption on the application. We, however, got in touch with the other two parties and decided to provide options of all major players to our users, as we wanted to be unbiased.”
