PUNE: Finally it was Maharashtra — Sharad Pawar''s own state — that led to his debacle at the prestigious elections for the presidentship of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The infighting among the two factions in the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA), one led by chairman Dnyaneshwar Agashe and the other by industrialist Ajay Shirke, was one of the reasons for Pawar''s loss on Wednesday.
Sources told TNN from Kolkata that Agashe had claimed representation for Wednesday''s meeting without approval of the two observers — former cabinet secretary B G Deshmukh and retired Mumbai police commissioner M N Singh — who were appointed by the Bombay High Court to oversee the working of the MCA.
