The closest known relatives of the coronavirus behind Covid-19, SARS-CoV-2, was found in bats in Laos. The three viruses are more similar to SARS-CoV-2 than any known viruses and even contain almost identical receptor-binding domains, which means they can therefore infect human cells, Nature reports.
