Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has taken up two road widening projects under Vizianagaram Municipal Corporation. The first is the 600-meter-long Gumchi-Rythubazaar road and the other is the 950-meter-long R&B Junction to Duppada Y-Junction road.
VMRDA comissioner P Koteswara Rao urged the special officer of the corporation and district collector M Hari Jawahar Lal to take measures in a manner that would not draw public opposition.
For the Gumchi-Rythu bazaar road, a temple and six buildings will have to be demolished for the road widening work, while for the R&B-Duppada Junction road, work had come to a standstill because of high tension electric wires.
Hari Jawahar Lal urged municipal authorities, VMRDA and electricity department to coordinate and ensure that stalled projects were completed. The collector added, “These two roads are key junction points taking commuters to different parts of the city. Widening works have to be taken up.”
The cdistrict ollector further urged the local MLA, K Veerabhadra Swami, to ensure cooperation from the locals. He also urged officials of the civic body to plant aromatic, herbal and oxygen-generating plants around tanks that have been cleaned.
