VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA)

park

is now being revamped with better

infrastructure

and amenities. The park, located near RK Beach Road, is operated by the

VMRDA

and is frequented by tourists and fitness enthusiasts.


The renovation work is being taken up by the

Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation

(GVMC under the smart city initiative. GVMC will spend around Rs 30 crore on the renovation and the

facelift

is expected to be completed in the next 10-12 months.

Spread over 20 acres, the park has water fountains, a skating rink, a children’s play arena and a yoga centre.

Under the smart city project, the park will be divided into four zones. Zone one will be located around the skating rink and consist of the skating rink, an ‘adventure’ cycle track and a vehicle track. Zones two and three will be child-friendly, with a multi-purpose lawn, children’s play area in two places, an open gym and vending kiosks.

The entire zone will be designed maintaining a green cover. According to sources in the GVMC there are a few parts in the park that are rocky. Hence, some adventure and fun activities for children will be added in these areas. There are also plans to introduce a miniature version of rock climbing for children.
