VISAKHAPATNAM: Cybercrooks stole 5.4 lakh from a woman in
Vizag city after promising her a part-time job online. The woman had received a
WhatsApp message from an unknown number. The person, claiming to be a receptionist of a financial service company, told the woman to earn money by working part-time from home. Though the woman told them that she is not interested, the cybercrooks deposited 10,000 in her account to gain her trust.
Later, the woman agreed to work, and she was asked to like some videos and share them on YouTube, for which an amount of 400 was deposited in her account. A few days after the task, she was redirected to another page, where the cybercrooks asked her to pay 54,000 as another task, to get 30 per cent commission on the amount. Later, the woman was asked to pay 88,000, 1.5 lakh and 2.5 lakh in the name of various tasks to earn money.
The woman paid 5.4 lakh in total but she had no option to withdraw the money. The woman realised that she was cheated and approached the police, said inspector of cybercrimes police station, K Bhavani Prasad. The cybercrooks stole 2.5 crore from the youngsters in 2022, Bhavani Prasad added.
