VISAKHAPATNAM: Despite the bad roads and difficulties in trekking, most people prefer to visit the Vanjangi Hills (popular as Meghala Konda) in Paderu mandal in ASR district during the winter mornings to witness the white fluffy clouds kissing the peaks of the hills.

The serene and tranquil tribal village of Vanjangi has become a tourist hotspot in the north Andhra Pradesh. Not only people from parts of Vizag and coastal Andhra Pradesh, but even those from Hyderabad, Odisha and a few other places are making a beeline for the spot.

The Vanjangi Hills arehome to one of the most beautiful sunrises. The hill range was named after Vanjangi, a small tribal hamlet.

It’s not so easy to reach the Vanjangi Hills to witness the natural beauty. The road leading to the village is narrow and ridden with potholes. We had to trek two to three kilometres to reach the point to witness the ‘Ocean of clouds’ (megha samudram in local parlance) in the morning hours, said K Siva Kumar, a software professional from Vizag city, who visited the spot twice this winter.

Though ASR district has a lot of tourist attractions such as Lammasingi and Tajangi for its cool and foggy weather, and Araku and Ananthagiri for scenic beauties, Vanjangi attracts at least 5,000 to 6,000 people on weekends.

The forest department has planned an eco tourism project at Vanjangi Hills, but it is yet to take off.
