Visakhapatnam: The election of G Hari Venkata Kumari as
Vizag mayor drew ire of followers of Ch Vamsi Krishna Srinivas, who was said to be the frontrunner for the mayor post before the official announcement was made. Hundreds of Vamsi Krishna’s followers gathered at the GVMC office shouting slogans and even crying after their leader was denied the mayor post.
Vamsi Krishna’s followers said that it was he who had given land for the party office when the party did not have an address in Visakhapatnam and had strived hard to strengthen the party’s position in the city.
As his followers protested, Vamsi Krishna Srinivas said that his ‘tears would turn into a curse for those who have done injustice to him’. “This has happened in the past too. A section in the party worked against me and they became successful this time. I will meet chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the next few days and do whatever is determined by the chief minister,” said Vamsi Krishna.
Currently the president of YSRC Vizag and the corporator from ward number 21, Vamsi Krishna on Thursday said that he does not wish to continue as party president and would explain the same to the chief minister. But in the evening, Vamsi requested his followers to not put up any posts or comments against YSRC. “I will completely abide by the party’s decision,” he said.
