VISAKHAPATNAM: Rajaka Street in Chinawaltair falling under ward number 16 of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is still far from being provided with basic amenities.
The area has nearly 200 houses and is close to Andhra University, Vuda Park and star hotels like The Park. Although Vizag has been declared as one of the cleanest cities under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, anyone passing through this locality will differ on the verdict.
"I have always come across an empty dustbin in the area pasted with Swachh Bharat posters, but a pile of waste lying just besides.
I do not know who to blame for this problem," said K Kameswara Rao, a resident of nearby East Point Colony.
Local resident P Satyanarayana said, "Both the residents and civic officials are equally responsible for such an unhygienic condition of the area. There is waste strewn all over the road. Being a resident of this area, I am also ashamed to see this. I do my part sincerely by dumping the waste into the bins. But it should be the responsibility of every resident."
Another resident P Mohan said, "The GVMC staff hardly concentrates on our area and openly ignores our complaints. I request the civic commissioner to visit the place at least once and look at the condition himself . Cat menace is also high in the area due to a fish market being located in the locality. Waste dump on the road and cats feed on them," K Meena, a student, said.
