VISAKHAPATNAM: What is expected to provide market linkages, a Turmeric Buyer-Seller Meet was successfully organized in Paderu of Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district on Monday, bringing together key stakeholders from across the turmeric value chain.
The event was held in the presence of ASR district collector AS Dinesh Kumar, joint collector and In-charge project officer Abhishek Gowda, and joint director of horticulture department MG Deva Muni Reddy.
The meet witnessed the participation of over 25 buyers from Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh, along with district officials, and a good number of Village Horticulture Assistants (VHAs), and more than 400 farmers.
Addressing the gathering, district collector Dinesh Kumar highlighted the high value of turmeric grown in the region and encouraged buyers to establish strong business relationships with Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). He assured that the government would support buyers and farmers in maintaining quality standards to meet market requirements.
Joint collector Abhishek Gowda emphasized the significance of post-harvest management and advised farmers to adhere to proper moisture control and polishing standards to enhance the marketability of their produce.
Joint Director of Horticulture MG Deva Muni Reddy stated that turmeric cultivation in the district accounts for nearly two-thirds of the total production in the state, significantly contributing to the state’s GDP.
Buyers showed keen interest in sourcing turmeric from the region and actively engaged with farmer groups to discuss future collaborations.
The event was jointly organized by Digital Green and the Department of Horticulture as part of the EMircha 2.0 project, aiming to strengthen market linkages and promote sustainable turmeric farming in the region.
This initiative marks a significant step towards improving farmer incomes and enhancing the quality and competitiveness of locally grown turmeric in national markets.
