Transport dept on overdrive

Visakhapatnam: In an attempt to cater to the rush of passengers during Sankranti, various

transport

departments including the railways are taking several measures.

Officials of the transport department in Visakhapatnam said that more than 100 special buses will be run from Hyderabad via Vijayawada to Visakhapatnam to ferry over 10,000 expected passengers.

Helpline number: 08662570005 has been announced to help passengers.

The railway staff at Visakhapatnam railway station informed that nearly 1 lakh footfalls are being registered every day right now, almost double from the 40,000 to 50,000 footfalls registered regularly.

Speaking to TOI, a railway official said that special ticket counters and ticket vending machines will be operational till Wednesday morning.

On the other hand, a number of trains have been cancelled in the Titlagarh-Thiruveli section of the Sambalpur division between January 27 and January 31 owing to safety related modernisation work that will be carried out along the area. The work is slated to begin on January 22.
