Teen drowns, another goes missing on Vizag beach

VISAKHAPATNAM: An outing to to RK Beach turned tragic as a teenager drowned and another went missing on the stretch near Kali Matha temple under Three-Town police station on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as 17-year-old D Harshavardhan (Harsha), a resident of Kancharapalem in Vizag, and the missing person is G Rahul (17), a resident of Yendada in the city. The police said a group of seven (all intermediate second year students of private junior colleges) went to RK Beach for morning walk and jogging.

While four of them were splashing in the sea, Rahul and Harsha were pulled in by strong waves. While Rahul went missing, Harsha was rescued and shifted to a hospital, where he died. Three Town police station inspector K Rama Rao said they have launched a search operation to trace Rahul. The search operation will resume on Friday morning. The family members of the victims said Rahul and Harsha wanted to join the Indian Navy.
