Tank clean-up drive to go beyond dist headquarters
Visakhapatnam: District collector of Vizianagaram, M Hari Jawaharlal announced on Sunday that a tank clean-up drive will be taken up in the Parvathipuram municipality.
The collector asked municipal authorities to go by the original records to find the exact number of tanks in the area, their extent, encroachments and present conditions.
Jawaharlal said that a detailed report must be submitted before corrective measures are taken and pointed out that there should be a detailed study on pollution levels in concerned tanks.

“So far, out focus has been on the district headquarters. We now wish to extend out clean-up activity across all municipalities of the district,” the collector said while adding that many of the irrigation tanks in the Parvathipuram division were built during the British era and many tanks have been used as waste dumps over the years.
The collector urged authorities to submit a detailed report so that corrective measures can be taken up at the earliest. Jawaharlal pointed out that he will personally supervise the clean-up drive and camp in the town, which is the revenue sub-division headquarters.
According to sources the collector is planning to take up the drive in less than two weeks from now.
