Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority
(Vuda) has been selected for the state annual Tourism Excellence Awards for 2015-16 in the best civic management of a tourist destination category. The award would be presented to Vuda on World Tourism Day on Tuesday at
Tummalapalli Kalakshetram
in Vijayawada by chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, joint director of tourism department
AP Sudha Kumar Saka
informed Vuda authorities.
Vuda was selected for its outstanding work in providing a face lift to Padmapuram Gardens in Araku and Kailasagiri, and beautification of Visakha Airport, which were severely damaged by cyclone Hudhud in October 2014. Apart from this, Vuda has completed the works of World Telugu Museum, Buddhavanam in health arena near Kailasagiri, Smart Park at Pandurangapuram and Central Park. It had also done beautification works during the
International Fleet Review
(IFR) in February of this year. Majority of these projects were completed within four months span, Vuda vice-chairman Baburao Naidu told TOI.
"Padmapuram Gardens, constructed by the British in 1942, was severely damaged by cyclone Hudhud. We have created a 1.8 km flower bed with the support of
ITDA
within a short span. The award is a moral booster to our engineering and forest wings," the Vuda VC said.
