Sree Vidya nets winner as Kadapa lift hockey trophy

Visakhapatnam: T Sree Vidya’s 55th minute goal helped YSR Kadapa pip Anantapur 1-0 in the final of the 11th Hockey Andhra Pradesh sub-junior women championship at the RDT ground, Anantapur on Sunday. Sri Satya Sai district beat Srikakulam 4-1 to take the third spot after P Madhurima Bai pumped in a brace in seventh minute of the match.
Results (Final): YSR Kadapa 1 (T.Sree Vidhya 55th) bt Anantapur 0. Play-off for 3rd place: Sri Satya Sai 4 (P Madhurima Bai 2, A Divya 1, B Sindhu 1) bt Srikakulam 1 (K Tulasi 1). SFs: Anantapur 3 (C Manjusha 2, P Lakshmi 1) bt Srikakulam 3 (K Tulasi 2, B Revathi 1). Tie-breaker: 2-2, sudden death: Anantapur bt Srikakulam 1-0. Ram Reddy’s ton in vain
Vijay Ram Reddy’s 120 (155b,4x16,6x1) went in vain as U-16 & U-19 B failed to gain first innings lead over Team A in a YSR Kadapa district two-day league match.
Brief scores: U-16 & U-19 A 296 & 145 in 44.5 overs (T Dheeraj 4/27) drew with U-16 & U-19 B 235 in 59.1 overs (Vijay Ram Reddy 120; Praveen Kumar 4/ 24).
Chess trials postponed
The All Visakha Chess Association has postponed the U-15 open and girls team selections, scheduled to be held on Sunday. A fresh schedule would be announced later, secretary of AVCA S Manikanta Rao said.
Srikakulam fencing team
Eighteen fencers, including nine women would represent Srikakulam in the state senior fencing to be held in Kakinada on March 11 and 12.
