Visakhapatnam: A couple from Patapatnam town in Srikakulam district sacrificed theircareers for their 16-year-old daughter who has been suffering from down syndrome- Trisomy 21. Their efforts bore fruit when
Shreya Mishra excelled in bharatanatyam and kuchipudi, and won national award for individual excellence under ‘Shrestha Divyang Balika’ category.
The girl won the award for empowerment of persons with disabilities (Divyangjan) 2022 and received it from President
Draupadi Murmu last week.
She is pursuing intermediate and has been doing stage performances for a decade.
Her father Siva Prasad Mishra, who was a teacher in Odisha, and mother
Padmavathi, who worked in the computer section in ICDS, left their jobs to take care of the girl.
