Andhra Pradesh is expected to receive normal to above-normal rainfall during the northeast monsoon season from October to December. The southwest monsoon ended well, with about 21% more rain than usual from June to September this year. The northeast monsoon brings rain to coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema due to a change in wind direction.

The IMD expects above-normal rainfall for the northeast monsoon, estimated at over 112% of the long-period average (LPA). The LPA for rainfall in south Peninsular India during this period is about 334.13 mm, based on data from 1971 to 2020.

Currently, there is a well-marked low-pressure area over the central south Bay of Bengal. Winds from the east and northeast are affecting southern peninsular India and the central Bay of Bengal. Light to moderate rain has been widespread, with heavy rain reported in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Kerala.

The low-pressure area is expected to move west-northwest and strengthen into a depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours, moving toward the coasts of north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh.

There is also a cyclonic circulation over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal off the south Andhra Pradesh coast, extending up to 5.8 km above sea level.
