Sharmila's securitymen rough up cameraman

Mediapersons from various media groups in the city staged a dharna at the Gandhi statue near GVMC office here on Friday to protest against the manhandling of a vernacular TV channel cameraman by three security guards of YSR Congress leader Y S Sharmila, during her on-going Maro Praja Prasthanam padayatra at Kancharapalem on Friday morning.

The mediapersons formed a human chain at the Dwarakanagar Junction demanding the arrest of Sharmila's security personnel as well as an apology from the YSRCP leader.
Responding to the protest, Sharmila is said to have given an assured that she would hand over the men responsible for the incident to the police.

The cameraman, P Amarnath was beaten up by Sharmila's guards when he was taking shots of her walkathon at Kancharapalem Mettu, a colleague of the victim said, adding that the injured cameraman was admitted to a private hospital at Dwarakanagar, where his condition is said to be stable.
YSR Congress leaders including Dadi Veerabhadra Rao, Koyya Prasad Reddy and Vamsi Krishna Yadav called on the victim. Minister for ports and infrastructure Ganta Srinivasa Rao also visited the victim and condemned the incident.
When contacted, Kancharapalem sub-inspector K Ramesh admitted that they had received a complaint but had not taken anyone into custody as the complainants did not mention the names of the people against whom they wanted to file the plaint.
