KAKINADA: In a ghastly road accident, seven women were killed and seven others injured in Kakinada district on Sunday.
The accident occurred on the bypass road at Tallarevu in Kakinada district when a bus hit an auto rickshaw in which a group of 14 women were returning home after work in an aquaculture factory.
According to the police, the women hailing from Yanam were returning home from Tallarevu after working in a prawn processing unit at Sitaramapuram village.
When they reached Subbarayudu Dimma centre in Tallarevu a private bus which was going from Kakinada to Hyderabad collided with the autorickshaw. Six of the occupants died on the spot while two others succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment in a hospital.
The injured were shifted to government general hospital in Kakinada. The driver of the autorickshaw escaped unhurt in the accident.
All the women are residents of various localities in Yanam, which is part of Puducherry.
Condition of three women is critical The bodies of the women were scattered on the road under the impact of the collision. Two bodies were trapped in the autorickshaw and the locals removed them with difficulty.
The deceased women have been identified as Sesetti venkatalakshmi and Karri Parvathi, residents of Mettakudhuru, Kalli Padma of Kothapost, Nimmakayala Laxmi of Kurasam Peta, Budapaneti Satyavathi and Bokka Anantha Lakshmi of Prawns Thippa and Chintapalli Jyothi of Venkat Nagar.
Kakinada GGH superintendent Dr Hemalatha said that six women died on the spot and eight women were brought to the GGH. The condition of three women is critical. She said one woman succumbed in hospital. The remaining women were admitted to a private hospital by the management of the firm, where they worked.
