VISAKHAPATNAM: The search for the two persons who went missing in the blue waters alongside Vasavanipalem beach under MVP Colony police station limits in Vizag city on Sunday morning continued on Monday. However, not a single body could be traced till evening.
It may be recalled that a joy trip turned tragic for a group of people when two of them went missing and feared to have drowned in the deep sea about three kilometre from the shore on Sunday morning.
The missing were identified as U
Anil (20) and V Praveen (20).
Inspector of MVP Colony police station, H Malleswara Rao, said that as part of tradition, a group of fishermen ventured into sea on a small boat. They do this every year on the day after Maha Sivarathri, and they would take a dip in the blue waters.
As they were sailing in the sea, Praveen jumped into the waters hoping his family members would pick him up. He did not know swimming. As he struggled to reach the boat, Anil jumped into the sea to rescue him.
Though Anil was good at swimming in the blue waters, Praveen caught hold of Anil’s neck to stay afloat, resulting in both drowning in the sea. Some of the people on the boat jumped into the sea to rescue them but their efforts proved futile. Police said they will resume the search operation on Tuesday morning.
