Savchenko bags GM chess title at GITAM in Visakhapatnam

GM Savchenko Boris from Russia, playing under the FIDE banner, downed top-seeded GM Amonatov Farrukh of Tajikistan in the 10th and final round to win the top prize in the GITAM third Grand Masters international tournament at the GITAM deemed to be university here on Friday.

VISAKHAPATNAM: GM Savchenko Boris from Russia, playing under the FIDE banner, downed top-seeded GM Amonatov Farrukh of Tajikistan in the 10th and final round to win the top prize in the GITAM third Grand Masters international tournament at the GITAM deemed to be university here on Friday. He finished with 8.5 points. GMs Paichadze Luka of Georgia, Stupak Kirill of Belarus and India’s GM Harsha Bharathakoti, IM S Nitin and GM Mitrabha Guha finished with 7.5 points each and secured the second to sixth places.
