A total of 772 areas in 13 districts recorded maximum temperature between 35°C-40°C while 163 areas registered temperature between 40°C and 45° Celsius.

Visakhapatnam city additional deputy commissioner of police Ch Adinarayana said nearly 450

traffic cops

are on duty to prevent crowds and monitor traffic. “The hot weather conditions for the last few days in the city have played a role in decreasing public gathering in the daytime,” Adinarayana said.

Visakhapatnam joint collector L Shiva Shankar said a senior citizen in the district died owing to the high temperature. Sixty-five-year-old Meerabhi died of sunstroke at Chodavaram in the district, Shiva Shankar said.

Shiva Shankar dismissed allegations that a woman died while standing in the queue for free ration. “She collapsed near the Anganwadi centre, which some 100 metres away from her home, while on her way to the fair price shop. Her grandson was also with her” the joint collector told TOI.
