Visakhapatnam: More than 200 TDP leaders, including former ministers and MLAs, were placed under house arrest while they were preparing to participate in a protest in Rushikonda. The TDP leaders were out to express solidarity with the protest in Vizag.
The leaders were placed under house arrest from Thursday night. Police had put restrictions on roads from Yendada to Rushikonda and Sagaranagar to Rushikonda.
Former ministers K Sravan Kumar, K Venkata Rao, former MLC Buddha Venkanna, Srikakulam district TDP president G Sirisha, former MLA P Govind, TDP state women’s wing president V Anita, Telugu Nadu Students Federation state president M Pranav Gopal and TDP state general secretary A Mahesh were among those who were arrested. Leaders of different parties had approached the court by alleging that the government was destroying the hill in the name of tourist resorts by violating environmental norms.
The TDP leaders alleged that the construction on the hill was illegal. They alleged that YSRCP leaders were encroaching land in Vizag and north Andhra.
