VIJAYAWADA : Stating that maoists had no sympathy of people, AP state police chief, JV Ramudu felt that villagers attack on Maoists in
Visakhapatnam district has vindicated their stance on the issue. He said that people revolted against the Maoists atrocities and killed them on the spot. Speaking to reporters here on Monday after reviewing the arrangements for CM’s visit for police commemoration day, Ramudu said that the deceased Maoists have been identified as area commander Sarath, Korra Nageswara Rao and Palasa Ganapathi.
The incident took place late on Sunday night when at least five suspected left wing maoists tried to kill J Sanjeeva Rao, a former maoist and his friend Simhachalam, spiritual preacher at Veeravaram village under Chintapalli mandal in Vizag agency, said DGP. He said that Sanjeeva Rao who was once a maoist had confined himself to village since 2001. He said that two tribals too reported to have been killed by the Maoists and they were verifying the facts. “The incident is no way connected to the bauxite mining,” DGP clarified. He said that tribals could not tolerate the high handed attitude of the naxalites and took them to the task. He said that villagers staging a revolt against the Maoists was for the first time in the reds history.
He said that people never backed the Maoists out of love for the movement. “Some of the villagers extended their support only for fear of weapons possessed by the Maoists. Construing it as mass support was a big blunder,” said Ramudu. He felt that people mustered courage to attack the Maoists as they lost patience due to the continued suffering. DGP said that at least 3 police personnel laid down their lives in their fight against the anti-social elements during the last 12 months. He said that police were working to keep peace in the society by scarifying their lives. He said that CM Chandrababu Naidu would attend the police commemoration day event to be held in the city on Tuesday and pay tributes to the police martyrs. City police commissioner AB Venkateswara Rao, ADGP (battalions) Guatham Sawang, DCP Asho Kumar were present.
