Love affair behind bride’s suicide: Cops

Visakhapatnam: The mystery over the death of a woman, M Srujana, during her wedding ceremony at Madhurawada in Vizag city has finally been solved. PM Palem police said love affair was behind the tragic death of the 22-year-old bride.
It may be recalled that the woman from Hyderabad died even as her wedding ceremony was progressing on May 11. As the priest was guiding the groom to shower cumin and jaggery pieces on her head, the bride collapsed on to the platform.She was rushed to a private hospital where she took her last breath. Investigation revealed that the woman had consumed some poisonous substance. Now, the cops have come to the conclusion that it was a case of suicide.
Speaking to TOI, assistant commissioner of police (North), Ch Srinivasa Rao said Srujana had an affair with one T Mohan from Vizag city and she wanted to marry him. However, Mohan wanted time to settle down and get married.
Meanwhile, Srujana’s marriage was fixed with Nagothi Shivaji of PM Palem in Vizag city and for May 11.
Days before the marriage, the woman asked her boyfriend to take her somewhere else. But he refused and sought more time. Srujana told him that she would try to stop the marriage at any cost.
She consumed poisonous substance, collapsed moments before the groom was to tie the nuptial knot, and died later, police added.
Though the bride’s brother Vinay told the media that her sister will not commit suicide as the marriage was fixed with her consent, investigation revealed that Srujana was forced into the marriage, and the love affair was the reason for the tragic death of the woman, the police added.
The victim deleted WhatsApp and Instagram chats with her boyfriend before the marriage ceremony. We have been waiting for some more reports to confirm the name of the poisonous substance which was consumed by the bride, police added.
