Jyothi seeks govt help

Visakhapatnam: Jyothi Yerraji has broken a 21-year-old National record in the women’s 100 meters hurdles last year and since then improved her own mark multiple times, becoming the first Indian woman to record a sub-13 second mark in the process. In her great run of success, the 23 years old Jyothi won two gold medals in the National Games held in Gujarat last year and she is yet to get Rs. 10 lakh as a reward (Rs. 5 lakh for a gold medal winner) as announced by the Government. The file is still pending with the Government.Daughter of a private security guard and an ayah in a private hospital coming this far itself demonstrates Jyothi’s talent and determination. She got her first proper training at the training center that was established by the Sports Authority of AP in association with Anil Kumble’s Tenvic sports academy near Guntur. After the academy was closed, the Reliance sponsored High Performance Academy in Bhubaneswar took her.Jyothi seeks help from the Government. “Individuals and organisations give me Rs. 5,000 or Rs. 6000 or Rs. 10,000 but a big amount is always eluding me. Thanks to Reliance they funded my trips to Europe and other countries where I have broken my record several times”, said Jyothi from Mumbai.
