Huge quantity of ganja set on fire

Visakhapatnam: Vizag rural police with the permission of the drugs disposal committee put 42,183 kg of seized dry

The ganja which was worth crores of rupees on the black market was set on fire at the Kalyanapulova hills in Ravikamatam mandal. This is the third time that the Vizag rural cops have destroyed the seized ganja. They set 11,493 kg of ganja on fire for the first time on February 27 of this year and again 7,637 kgs ganja on fire on March 13 for the second time.

The ganja that was set on fire was seized in Narsipatnam rural, Golugonda, Natavaram, Kotauratla, Narsipatnam town in Narsipatnam sub-division, Chodavaram, V Madugula, A Koduru, K Kotapadu, Bucchaiahpeta, Cheedikada, Devarapalli and Anakapalle town.

After participating in the destruction of ganja, the Visakha Range DIG Ch Srikanth told mediapersons that efforts have been taken to divert the tribals from ganja cultivation to alternative crops with the help of agriculture, forest and ITDA departments. The main kingpins in this business have been evading the law and the innocent tribals are landing in jail, police said. Rural SP Rahul Dev Sharma, DSP Ch Vivekananda, and excise assistant commissioner N Babjee Rao and others participated.
