Visakhapatnam: Preliminary investigation into the recent influx of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) into Vizag has revealed that fake
currency is coming into the city not only from West Bengal but also from
Uttar Pradesh.
A few days ago, the city police seized FICN of Rs 2.96 lakh face value and arrested three people. Cops managed to nab Kadavala Naga Venkata Satya Narayana (49) and Rowthu Jaya Ram (30), both residents of Vizag and Bontha Padma Rao (42) of Vizianagaram district for circulating FICN.
Since then, the police have been trying to nab the suppliers— Shaik Abdul Rehman of Chodavaram in Visakhapatnam district and Sayyed Mujibur Rehman of East Godavari district.
Speaking to TOI, Ch Shanmukha Rao, inspector of MVP police station said that cops suspect some gangs from UP are pumping fake currency into Vizag and other parts of south India. “If we manage to nab the local suppliers, we may get clues about the kingpin and how FICN enters the region,” the inspector added.
City police chief RK Meena said that they are planning to hand over the FICN case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to establish the links between the local suppliers and the main smugglers of FICN.
