VISAKHAPATNAM: CM Trivikram Varma, the new police commissioner of Visakhapatnam, has said that he would give the most priority to women’s safety and try to make Vizag a ganja-free city. He said Vizag is the only transit point for ganja trade as the traders are transporting the material passing through the city.
The 2005 batch IPS officer took charge as the city police chief on Wednesday from outgoing IG-rank officer Ch Srikanth at Police Commissionerate.
New DCP Vasan Vidya Sagar Naidu has also taken charge from the outgoing DCP Sumit Garud Sunil.
Varma worked as deputy commissioner of police (DCP) (Law and Order) in the city during 2015-16 before he was posted in Prakasam district as superintendent of police. Interestingly, he took the charge as Prakasam district SP from the outgoing SP Ch Srikanth then and now has taken charge of city police chief from the same officer.
After his promotion as DIG in 2019, he was posted as Guntur Range DIG.
Speaking to media persons, the new police commissioner Varma said he knows the city very well as he had worked here and knows about the problems. “I would focus on traffic issues and also ganja menace, apart from the women’s safety. We will not spare any anti-social element in the city. We will not spare rowdy sheeters also if anyone’s involvement in any illegal activity,” he warned.
