Cannabis grown in farms destroyed

Visakhapatnam: ASR police recently destroyed cannabis plants which were being grown as intercrops in turmeric field at three villages under Hukumpeta mandal in the district.While, the enforcement agencies stated that organic turmeric may weed out illegal marijuana cultivation in remote areas of ASR district, Some farmers were found growing cannabis on their farmlands as intercrops. Based on the credible information, sub-inspector Satish led a team of cops and conducted raids at some remote villages in the area including Olu Bedda and Pedaburugula. Though the extent of cannabis cultivation on the turmeric field was low, the enforcement officials were shocked to see new strategies of the ganja cultivators.We have registered five cases for growing cannabis and the raids will continue to identify the ganja fields and destroy them, the police added.It may be recalled that a few days ago G Madugula police of ASR district destroyed cannabis plants in over five acres of land at Gadigunta village. The cops arrested three persons for growing ganja plants there.They further said that despite repeated warnings and arrests, some people are growing the weed in the remote villages along the Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) and few parts of the ASR district for good returns.

Asr to have 50-to-100-acre celebration point: Mann

Punjab's chief minister, Bhagwant Mann, has announced plans to develop Amritsar into a global tourist destination. He proposed the creation of a celebration point in the city, comprising banquet halls, to accommodate the large number of daily visitors. Mann also suggested the establishment of eco-tourism sites and a Filmcity for shooting and post-production. He emphasized the importance of tourism in creating jobs for the youth and promoting the state. Additionally, Mann expressed his preference for referring to the country as India, despite objections from some individuals.
