Breach in Donkarai power canal, officials halt electricity generation

(EAST GODAVARI): A breach to the

Donkarai power canal

in

East Godavari

district due to heavy downpour over the past fortnight caused closure of the hydropower project.


Sources said the floodwaters caused the breach at the Durgallama Temple area on the

canal

at midnight resulting in loss of crores of rupees in production and repairs.

The culvert was washed away at Kannabbai Camp and water inundated the area. After learning of the breach AP Genco authorities stopped the generation of

power

and released water into the project at the Sabari river in Alimeravagu by opening the pick-up dam gates.

The government had constructed 25 MW hydropower project on the

Sileru

river at Donkarai in East Godavari district.
