VISAKHAPATNAM: The state government on Tuesday accorded sanction for an amount of Rs 4 lakh to the Indian nationals who were kidnapped on July 29, 2015 on their way to Sirte in Libya for their onward journey to India via Tunis.

The two kidnapped hailed from Andhra Pradesh. They include T Gopi Krishna from Srikakulam and Dr Ramaswamy Kosanam from West Godavari district of the state. Both of them are still in the captivity of Islamic State.

The state government on Tuesday sanctioned Rs 2 lakh to the family of T Gopi Krishna, Srikakulam and Rs 2 lakh to the family of Dr Ramaswamy Kosanam, West Godavari as part of its moral and financial support.

According to a GO released on Tuesday, Union minister of external affairs and overseas Indian affairs Sushma Swaraj said that she made all efforts to secure release of those detained in Libya. The matter has elapsed and the families of these Indian nationals are facing not only mental anxiety but are also in financial difficulties, and she then suggested the state government to extend moral and financial support to their families.

Upon the request, the government took the decision.
