VISAKHAPATNAM: The government is yet to finalize the appointment of a Vice-Chancellor to the Andhra University (AU). But the recent appointment of Botsa Jhansi as in charge of the Vizag Lok Sabha seat is now changing the equations. The AU faculty expects the appointment of a new VC will be announced in a week or two, otherwise, the appointment of VC would take place after elections only. If that was the case, then the in-charge VC may continue till the elections.
Rector Prof K Samata was appointed as in-charge VC following the term completion of VC Prof PVGD Prasada Reddy in the last week of November. The search committee appointed for the suitable person for the post of the VC has already met twice and sent a report to the government with three names, sources said. The report is on the table in CM’s office.
“We learned that there were three names in the report including the former VC Prasada Reddy, former Registrar and now OSD Krishna Mohan, besides Higher Education Council Vice Chairman Prof. Rammohan Rao,” a professor on condition of anonymity informed.
AU teach faculty and students expected a new VC’s appointment in December, but it was delayed, and all the three persons included in the report have been trying tooth and nail to get the post, sources said.
AU faculty are saying that the appointment of a new VC would be finalized before the election code comes into implementation. Sources say that one of the three names in the search committee report has good relations with the new in-charge Botsa Jhansi and he was trying very hard.
“If the government feels to give chance to a new person rather than the three in the report, then the entire process may come to starting position and it may continue the in-charge VC,” they said.
